Glimmerstone produces unique beaded jewelry featuring genuine gemstones, with a supporting cast of pearls, crystals, seed beads, metal, vintage buttons, glass, and more. While searching for a jewelry identity, Ellen discovered bead embroidery, and there has been no looking back. This labor-intensive method involves sewing beads onto fabric, one or two at a time. Each piece takes anywhere from 5 hours for earrings to 60 hours or more for wall hangings.
After 36 years in horticulture at two local colleges, most recently Director of the Mount Holyoke College Botanic Garden, Ellen brings her landscape design skills, and love of the natural world, to her jewelry designs.
Glimmerstone jewelry is handmade in Ellen’s 200 year old home in Whately. Jewelry can be purchased online at etsy, or occasionally at local craft fairs.
In the future, expect to see bead embroidered handbags, wall hangings, vessels, pillows, and other home décor items, as well as the incorporation of fiber art.
