Katie Ray Arts showcases a wide range of fire formed art in glass and metal, including whimsical veggie earrings, lively glass vessels, deep spiraling marbles, and abstract steel sculptures. Both the glass and metal working processes, flamework and welding, used to create Katie’s work involve melting and forming material over a torch, from meticulous details to large sweeping forms. Katie is inspired by the natural world, peoples’ stories and struggles and the process of making. Her sculptures, though often abstract, reflect on issues of home and belonging, and take on a life of their own through the fluid creative process. Each piece from Katie Ray Arts is carefully handmade and truly one of a kind.
Katie lives on a farm in Hadley, MA, which inspires her veggie themed glasswork, and houses her studios. When not making her art, Katie can be found coordinating Get Up Get Down, an arts- for-change program that engages local youth in art and activism through public art, murals and metalwork. Katie also teaches English as a Second Language to K-12 students.
